Tanja Grandits’ newest culinary chapter unfolds in Oberwil, where the historic Restaurant Schlüssel has been carefully redesigned by Wyss + Santos. Known for her creativity and two Michelin stars, Grandits brings her signature balance of precision and warmth to this relaxed, welcoming setting.
Her goal was deeply personal: she wanted guests to feel as though they were dining at her home — surrounded by comfort, authenticity, and understated beauty.
As the architectural photographer commissioned by Wyss + Santos, I had the privilege of documenting this transformation — a space where light, texture, and hospitality converge to create an experience as refined as it is sincere.

The Vision Behind Schlüssel
Rather than replicating the fine-dining elegance of her Basel restaurant Stucki, Grandits envisioned a place defined by freshness, accessibility, and warmth.
The architectural renovation by Wyss + Santos amplifies this spirit. Their design embraces openness and natural materials — oak, stone, and sage-green fabrics — cultivating a calm visual rhythm. Every element, from light flow to seating arrangement, was conceived to foster ease and conversation.

Architectural Brilliance by Wyss + Santos
Wyss + Santos approached the renovation with restraint and warmth. They encapsulated the space in soft olive green, a tone that calms the eye and unifies the room. Paired with natural oak and gentle lighting, it creates an atmosphere that feels grounded and inviting.
A new lounge area adds to that sense of ease — more like a living room than a restaurant foyer, offering guests a place to pause, connect, and feel at home.

A Culinary Destination in Baselland
Beyond its visual charm, Schlüssel feels distinctly local. The 40-seat dining area and adjoining terrace create a seamless flow between interior and exterior, inviting guests to slow down and savor.
Every design decision fosters connection — between diners, between materials, between the senses. This sense of togetherness defines both Grandits’ kitchen and Wyss + Santos’ architecture.
For Oberwil and the wider Baselland region, Schlüssel represents more than a new restaurant: it’s a destination where architecture, light, and cuisine converge in a single, memorable experience.
